for one of the first times in my memory, finally there is a
dancehall reggae spot in chicago where you can actually order a good
martini!
acultureshock promotions has found a winner in tini martini.
located slightly off the beaten path (not in the hotspots of wicker/lincoln
park, wrigleyville or bucktown or downtown), this club still maintains a
hip, downtown, upscale atmosphere.
don't let the upscale looks fool you though. when you
walk in, you may be stunned by the expertly lit bar and laidback looks of
the place. you have to find the narrow stairs (watch out in those
stilettos!) and walk down to the basement for the real party.
downstairs is strictly downtown, hardcore dancehall style, courtesy of
wickedface. one of the best dj's in chicago, wickedface spins
everything from old rockers classics, lovers tunes and soca, to the newest
dancehall styles. the crowd is diverse, which is a refreshing find for the regulars who often see the same faces in the dancehall circuit-even in a large city like chicago, it can become monotonous. however, dancehall purists and casual fans can and do enjoy themselves at the tini.
