we arrived to this show around 1am. it
was held at the Radisson on Touhy, which has been host to numerous dancehall
events in the past. we headed to the bar upstairs to grab a drink or
two before dancing because you know when you get into the dance the drink
price doubles and the selection is small. anyway... well, i
forgot my ID and the security provided by the hotel were not going to let me
in despite numerous people who were willing to vouch for my 'veteran status'
unless i provided proper credentials, so off i drove back to my home to get
my id. 1:36 am i was finally allowed
inside. there was a decent crowd but i felt that it was too dark at
first, although after a while my eyes adjusted. the speaker boxes were
all in one corner as you can see in the pics and i think they should have
been separated. these are my only complaints. the sounds
performed wonderfully and this event was the first of it's kind i've seen in
chicago. everyone brought their own sound which was very impressive.
as you can see in the pics, there were 5 sounds set up on two rows of tables
in the front. all sounds were playing off of cd's except for one
turntable set-up, which was being worked by shockwave taking turns w/roadmaster
which i also though was an interesting 'sign of the times'. each sound
was allowed to play for around 15 minutes and all were in peak form,
displaying wicked mic skills as well as really knowing what to select.
the crowd was in early line out until aruond
2.30 when shockwave took their turn again and drew for the summer's latest
hits-the crowd finally came forward and the hype vibes began.
around 345am lights were turned on, but
the sounds didn't want to stop playing and kept on for another 10 minutes
until someone came up and unplugged the power supply.
big up wickedface sound from milwaukee,
roadmaster, one blood, jr. p, quality sound, deangelo, shockwave sound, vip
and platinum promotions for this great dance! |
