dj crazy chris and candie

the 1st annual big head bad girl and chicagoreggae.com midwest dancehall queen competition was billed to be the biggest event of the year and it followed through on that promise.  the taste entertainment center got off to a late start as patrons started to pour in after 2am to the early sounds of matrix and swacky of class one.  next, pure playaz straight from montego bay, the sound for the yearly international dancehall queen competition in mobay, took the wheels and crazy chris and dj kent got the party hype with some new tunes.  killaface brandished some of his trademark wicked dubs and nico bam bam, fresh off the plane all the way through the hurricane from kingston jamaica turned the place out just in time for round 1 of the competition at 3am.

7 contestants braved the stage this year to vie for the prize of round trip air and accomodations featuring entry into montego bay's 9th annual international dancehall queen competition, by big head promotions, the largest competition in the world.  tiana, passion, mad twins, destiny, candie, pocahontas and selebrity were the contestants and they each gave it their all in round 1, but only tiana, destiny, candie, pocohantas and selebrity would progress to round 2.  destiny was a no show in round 2  and it was a close battle between the remaining 4 contestants, but in the end, the judges (VIP, from vip entertainment, Haitian Rudeboy, a local dance instructor, DJ Kentucky from Pure Playaz) ruled candie to be the winner, closely followed by selebrity for 2nd place and pocohontas for 3rd.

candie will take the crown down to montego bay on july 30 to try her skills in the international competition facing off with contestants from as far away as switzerland and japan all vieing for the most prestigious dancehall queen title in the world.

congratulations to all the contestants who truly did a wonderful job and thank you to all of the judges, mc. d mose, selectors (especially nico, who i promised to the fans and did whatever it took to bring here through the hurricane and airline and governmental obstacles we faced with his tireless help and dedication) daniel who lived through all of my ranting and lisalisa my badgirl partner and fans without whom none of this would be possible.  also, a personal thank you from myself to bighead and saggi for giving me the idea and the inspiration to hold the contest.  it has truly been a dream fulfilled and i look forward to bringing chicago, the midwest and the dancehall community worldwide a better show each and every year!
