and i arrived at the cotton club around midnight. the streets looked
kind of quiet in the area and we were able to find a parking spot right out
front, but i know that cotton club is usually the afterparty spot for the
clark street clubs and doesn't tend to fill up until 2am, so it was no
surprise.
we found a table in the middle and held that corner throughout the night.
shockwave was on at first and was doing a nice job and starting the early
bubbling vibes.
     carmen
got right to work snapping away while i tried to see if anyone would be nice
enough to spring for some perrier jouet on my birthday (no such luck! haha),
but since unity agreed to come up all the way from atlanta via detroit just
to play for my parties, i couldn't complain.
        it
was my first time hearing unity play live, except for the
short stint at union hall the night before and everyone was anxious and
somewhat skeptical, "they're a CD sound, you know", people were telling me.
  well,
from the time cross first touched the mic, i knew this wasn't just your
"ordinary cd sound"! unity had the cotton club more hype than i've
EVER seen it! from old time roots and foundation through to the hottest new
summer scorchers and then back to foundation lovers rock, unity took full
control and made the crowd beg for more. 3:45am and the crowd was
still jumping and ready to go until sunrise...
 big
thank you to unity sounds for making the trek and repping atlanta in chicago
and also to acultureshock productions and teejay for my champagne BUCKET
filled with ice and water bottles (yeah, it wasn't my perrier jouet, but it
was a nice touch nevertheless)! it was a great birthday!!!
