Christmas Eve Bashment, Cotton Club: 12.24.03

after last month's thanksgiving eve adventure where we arrived at the cotton club around 2:30 only to be met by an unmoveable bouncer and a crowd pushing to get into an even more crowded club, i was determined to get to the cotton club as early as possible.  i called lisa and told her to meet me at 12:30 SHARP!

well, when i got there, i could tell i made a bad judgement call because i immediately found a parking space in front (not like last month where we drove around and around until i got so fed up i ordered the driver to park in front of a club-well, in front of a hydrant in front of the club, to be exact and ended up getting a $100 ticket) and there were plenty of spaces around.  lisa pulled up shortly after and after debating whether or not to go somewhere else first, we decided just to go in early and relax.

vip's wife told us at the door that she had cooked the food for the evening and i have to give her her proper respect because the food was NICE!  we had red snapper dinners with plantain, rice and peas and cabbage.  it was a nice way to prepare for an evening of partying-sitting at a table listening to face and deangelo while eating some good food.  the bartender was really sweet because when i went to order some water and a sprite, since he didn't have any bottled water, he gave me the drinks for free.  wonder if he would've made that same offer on a bottle of moet? will have to remember to try that next time..

anyway, by the time we were finished eating, i was ready to stand up and begin the dancing session.  i've never been to a dance where i hadn't stood up all night and this was no different.  deangelo and face took turns bringing us from the old to the new and by the time we made it up front to the dance floor, i looked around and the club was absolutely packed-probably even more than on thanksgiving eve.

next time for these holiday parties, i hope the cotton club has built an additional space or they find a bigger venue because when we were on the way out, the club was so crowded that people were in the outer room looking around like they were bored while a hip hop dj played.  it was too crowded in there to dance properly and if you didn't have your man or woman to pair up with, you were out of luck because surely there would be someone pressed against your backside anyway just because there wasn't any room to do anything else.  we had a great time though.  big up vip and family, deangelo, face and everyone else for nice evening!
