CHICAGO-formerly known as a "one party town" was in for a surprise on
this rainy Saturday night in November. At least 3 dancehalls were set
to be open and in the recent past, this city has shown to be not big enough
for even two. The night began at around
midnight when we went down to the LOFT to pick up Cash Money freshly in that
morning from Portmore. Swacky was having his birthday party up north
so we had to swing up there and show him our Chicagoreggae.com love and
support. At midnight, the loft already had a sizeable crowd, so I was
pretty excited to get back there, but after the 30 or so minute drive north
up Lakeshore, it was obvious that Swacky's thing was a complete sell off!
The place was packed. We could hardly find a parking spot and had to
check a back street for a slightly illegal corner location.
We stayed at Swacky's spot until around 2am and
enjoyed the sounds from Froggy fresh in from Florida representing Mad Squad
while Cash Money's Scratchie B hung out near the DJ booth. We could
hardly move around the room it was so packed. Nice upscale candlight vibes
in the place.

My phone was ringing off the hook from the loft telling me to hurry and
bring the star of the dance back because the place was getting packed. I
couldn't believe my ears though because it seemed like the whole of Chicago
was up North.

By the time 230am arrived, we were pulling back
up at the LOFT and what do you know!? NO place to park! Another SELL OFF
down south! We found a spot waaaay down the block on 75th and entered
into another dimension. The loft looked amazing! Even had a fire in the
middle of the dancefloor for decoration!

240am and I knew the lights must've turned on at
Swacky's thing becuase pure 847 numbers rang off my phone. I knew we were in
for a rush and sure enough, Shottas Crew, DHQ Candi and the whole of the
northside were at the door of the loft by 315.

The dancing crews took over the floor as
Deangelo held the vibes and Cash Money took over the controls. Candi
got up on top of a car in true passa passa style, Chi Chi did a wicked
shoulder top curl over wine and (future MDQ??) Trini showed off her skills
over by the DJ area. The men did their thing too and represented well
with Haitian Rudebwoy, Super G sound and TahTah.

VIP's were in the house like VIP himself, Wayne
from HotStuff, Jamdown Promotions, Field Marshall, Bad Man Ting, Haitian
Connection, QAlity, Lady Shottaz, Hottie Hottie Crew and the Toppa Top
girls.

We also heard from Killaface that Shottas HQ had
a big crowd too! This is proof that Chicago finally is no longer a 1
party town but a dancehall mecca of the Midwest.
