it was a rainy, rainy october night, but chicagoreggae crew knew we had to be at this dance so we packed up the car and arrived at around 11:35pm. we knew we were going to be early, as dancehall juggling events really don't start until typically 2am, but we were excited. there were only a few cars in the lot of family focus, at 2010 dewey in evanston, when we arrived, but we were glad to get a nice parking spot in the amply sized lots. after a thorough search by the evanston police, we entered the venue, pretty reassured that no one would be bringing any uzi's or mac 11's behind us. the music was playing already and a few people were eating the free food (looked like rice and peas and some kind of meat, but we didn't try it out) at tables in the hallway. slowly the dance started to fill up. here are some pics we took while the early juggling and early line out was going on, from around 12am-130am... the first metromedia dubplate signaled the wheels were being taken over by big belly skyjuice himself at 147am. at 148am, skyjuice is just starting his nice and easy early juggling. the crowd gets thicker, along with the smoke. by 201am, the crowd was bubbling and the smoke got so thick, the smoke detectors had to be deactivated after a false alarm. no one seemed to mind though, as sky juice started to get hype, and the crowd began to boil at 210. by 221am the dance was going at a full bubble as skyjuice picked up the pace and rinsed some riddims from the recent past like the showtime and the bruckout. pure smoke and heat and hype vibes filled the room:::
so, back into the dance we go and by 244, the
dance was at a full boil. the crowd had closed in to a circle in front of the
turntables and sky juice was playing the liquid riddim (log on), stripped down to his
undershirt and calling for the people to buss the log on and the screechie dance:::
